Three-day World Space Week kicked off at University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Tuesday with a pledge of making further advancements in space technology by involving the youth in endeavor.

Three-day World Space Week kicked off at University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Tuesday with a pledge of making further advancements in space technology by involving the youth in endeavor. The event was organized by UAF in collaboration with Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) to aware and inspire the youth discover new heights in space. The Space Week is a part of the Rabi Convention 2014 aimed at making the education relevant to the stakeholders and to expand outreach program of UAF by involving community and families in various colorful and interesting programs of sharing and learning. Addressing the inaugural session of the space week here at Iqbal Auditorium, UAF VC Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said such events are being organized at campus to get the students involved aiming at to evolve their learning process and pushing them to set high targets in their lives. He said during the last 6 years, UAF has become a flagship institution of the country setting new targets of research, higher education, co and extracurricular activities and global recognition. He applauded the efforts and role of Chairman SUPARCO for holding UAF hand in various R&D projects “they are helpful in crop forecasting, image processing and strengthening our engineering programs” he said. He vowed to make the collaboration more vibrant and will take it to new heights. Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan termed the overwhelming participation of students in space week as an evolving opportunity for them that would lay a foundation of transforming their high dreams. Dr. Rahmatullah Jilani, Director Sciences SUPARCO in his welcome address said that after its inception in 1961, SUPARCO had successfully launched Badar-1 and Badar-II in 1980 and 2001 respectively. He said in 2011, the SUPARCO sent a communication satellite PAKSAT that enabled the scientists make further advancements in medical, communication and agriculture sector. He said SUPARCO is promoting the space use in Pakistan and organizing space week in 10 major cities of the country. Dr. Allah Bakhsh urged SUPARCO to set up a Centre at UAF to encourage the youth in space activities. He said during 3-day activities, besides space walk and water rocket competitions, the students will also participate in model making competitions, poster display, quiz, and declamation competitions. Dr Asif Ali Khan Director ORIC thanked the participants and organizers and urged the students to take part in space activities. Students from Laboratory School Systems presented various skits, songs and thunderous performance highlighting the space world.
