As many as 40,000 women in Pakistan die of breast cancer every year as the country has the highest rate of the cancer in Asia. It was echoed at the awareness lecture on breast cancer arranged by the Senior Tutor Office, University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with Shoukat Khanum Hospital Lahore. Dr Urooj form the Hospital was the key speaker while the UAF Assistant Professor Dr Fatima Mustafa and Dr Naureen Rana also spoke. The programme is arranged by Senior Tutor Prof Dr Aslam Pervez on the direction of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. Tens of hundred of females students participated in the seminar at the Iqbal Auditorium. The gathering was told to make the proper check-up for prevention and the early treatment of the disease. The cancer in Pakistan needs special attention in order to control its spread and ensure timely detection. If cancer was detected at early stages, chances of survival increases manifold so people should be given awareness for early detection of breast cancer. Contrary to international studies, young women are more frequently reporting with the cancer in Pakistan. The cancer is becoming the leading cause of cancer deaths among women. Literacy, education and right to access information can play a vital role in the raising the aewarness among the women about the killer disease. it was told that it is becoming the one of the leading cause of cancer deaths in the country.
