National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema addressed a public lecture Titled Road Safety and Responsibilities of our youth at University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

National Highways and Motorway Police Inspector General Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema on Tuesday said: every year, 13,000 people die and more than 50,000 people face severe injuries in road mishaps. He addressed a public lecture titled road safety and responsibilities of our youth arranged by Public Relations and Publications Department, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. NH&MP IG Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema addresses a public lecture at UAF He said that road engineering, education (awareness about safe driving) and enforcement of laws are essential to curtail increasing road accidents. He advised people using seat belts or helmets that increase the chances of survival by 60-70 per cent in case of accident. He said over speeding, usage of mobile phone while driving and lane violation are causing fatal accidents. He said as many as 80 per cent accidents were taking place due to negligence of drivers. He said motorway police and their teams make a visit to truck and public service vehicles terminals on a regular basis to brief drivers regarding safe travel. He said that motorway police is the only corruption free public sector department, according to NAB, Asian Development Bank and Transparency International. Quoting the example of Lady Diana’s accident, he said that only one person in the car, who was wearing seatbelt, was survived. He added 60-70% chances of fatal accidents reduce due to wearing of seatbelt. Talking to students, he said disappointment among the youth prevails because of different challenges including economic crunch, energy crisis and terrorism. But with education, love for country, commitment and dedication, we can turn our homeland into a developed county. He said that the nature had blessed Pakistan with the tremendous resources including fertile land, four seasons etc. It is our duty to tap the potential. He said we are living in a wonderful country which was attained after tremendous sacrifices. He added that Japan and Germany after Second World War, rebuilt themselves with the determination, motivation and education. He stressed upon the need to follow in the footprints of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal so that we can progress in the every field of life. He flayed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policy of aggression that is taking the lives of innocent Muslims. He said that Pakistani nation knew how to respond to the threat. No one is allowed to kill our people and violate the Line of Control. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that in Faisalabad, one thousand people die in road accidents annually. He said that awareness among the masses about the precautionary measures and safe driving are imperative to deal with the situation. He said that education was the life learning process. He stressed the need to educate the people about the right of way for the people. He added that the follow the traffic rule that will not only reduce the traffic mishaps but also make the journey comfortable. PRP Principal Officer Prof Dr Jalal Arif said that the UAF is ever-first educational institution in Pakistan which has emerged among the top 100 universities of the globe under the dynamic leadership of Vice Chancellor. He said that the in National Taiwan University ranking 2014, it has become 97thbest university in the subject of agriculture. Talking about NHMP, he said that commitment of Zulfiqar Cheema compelled the criminals to give up the world of crime. Lecturer Ayesha Asghar also spoke on the occasion. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Ehsan Taufail, City Traffic Muhammad Masoom, and other notables also attended the lecture. A learning license mobile camp was also established in front of Iqbal Auditorium to facilitate the students that will continue by October 15 (today)
