Pakistani second girl, Rabia Faridi, a student of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, will fly for United Nations today (Sunday) to present speech at the UN General Assembly session commencing form September 22, 2014. The title of her speech is women education. She will also receive an award "2014 Youth Courage Award” at the event. It is second time in the history of the country that Pakistani student will speak at the UNGA session. UAF VC Prof Dr Iqrar A Khan gives away a cheque of Rs. 1,00,000/- to Rabia Faridi A high-ranked officials meeting of UAF was held on Saturday in her honour at syndicate room that was chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. Talking to the meeting, she said that she was privileged to present positive image of country at the elite forum of UN. She said that the education was the key to become developed nation and to deal with different challenges at individual, community, national and international level. She said that the land of our county especially rural site is much fertile with talented people. I would highlight such success stories there. She said that by providing the facility to hone the skills of rural community, we can make development rapidly. Islam emphasizes on reading. But it is the really disturbing that literacy rate in the county was low especially in women. She said that there are numerous examples of women who had played a pivotal role for the uplift of the country. These personalities such as Fatima Jinnah must become source of aspirations for us. She said behind her success, there is the UAF which provided her opportunity to polish her skills. I really thank my institution to bring me such the level. She said his father always encouraged me to study. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the UAF was taking all possible steps to provide the state-of-the-art facilities to the students and sharpen their skills. He added that the university by design takes the students on quota system in which rural population was being encouraged to get admissions. Our rural population was having a lot of potential that needs to explored and tapped. He said that Rabia was belonging to the outskirts of the Samundri. Talking about women initiatives, he said that PC1 for the 1,000 beds hostel funded by Punjab Government has approved. He said the UAF was having women complex centre providing modern facilities to the women students Talking about rural development, he said that being an agrarian country, our progress is directly linked with the agricultural sector. A large number of the population was living in rural areas. He viewed that massive migration towards urbanization was being witnessed in the country. There is the need to make rural development in order to lower down the increasing urbanization. The Vice Chancellor also gave a cheque of Rs one lakh to the student. Senior Tutor Prof Dr Aslam Pervez pinned hope that more Rabia Faridi will be produced by the UAF. He said that UAF administration was providing taking all tangible steps to sharpen their skills. Rabia is also a global youth ambassador of education by UN. She is a student of M.Sc Hons (Plant Breeding and Genetics), UAF and member of Debating Club, Office of the Senior Tutor, UAF. Rabia is also a winner of Bargad Youth I-con Award 2014. Currently, she is working on bringing out-of-school and dropout towards education in the Faisalabad Division. A couple of months ago, Rabia Faridi had presented speech on Women Education at Convention Centre, Islamabad where UN Special Envoy for Global Education and former Britain Prime Minster Gordon Brown was the chief guest.
