The University of Agriculture Faisalabad has launched first agricultural mobile phone android application relating to different crops and fruits diseases, their solutions and ways to increase productivity in order to educate the farming community. It was revealed at the UAF Deans Committee chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan at Syndicate Room in which Registrar Muhammad Hussain conducted the proceeding while Treasure Umer Saeed, Controller of Examination Muhammad Shafqat Iqbal, all deans and directors were present. Director Information Technology Farjeel Javed gave the presentation on IT. The Vice Chancellor was informed that initially, the application named “horticulture UAF” is covering crops and fruits including wheat, cotton and citrus. The application is available free of cost on Google Play Store. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that other crops, vegetables and fruits would be included in the application to address the problems of the farming community. He said that lack of awareness among the farming community was the main hurdle to increase per acre production. It is prerequisite to get the benefit from information technology in modern era to compete with the rest of the world. One can find all type of information ranging from arts to science, medical to agriculture etc on a single click. He also directed the meeting to ensure the modern facilities and quality education for the students. He said that the university was also launching different skills development in the summer in order to equip the people with demand driven skills. He also stressed the need to strengthen mechanism of Massive Open Online Courses at the campus to facilitate students regarding listening scientists recorded lectures through internet. In the presentation, IT Director Farjeel Javed said that IT has attained immense importance in the modern era. With the social media, the world has become a global village. He added the UAF is promoting the eco-friendly virtually learning environment. The university was pioneer university, which is introducing internet cloud technology across the campus in a span of one year.
