Annual Function of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences

Although Pakistan was having millions of animals but average milk production is very low compared to other countries, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He was talking to participants of annual function of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. He said that animals are also facing the threat of the viral diseases, resulting in deterioration of milk and meat quality. He urged the scientists to aware farming community about precautionary measures so that the productivity can be increased manifold. He said that in order to sustain growing trend in animal productivity, a lot more ought to be done. The most important of them is to reduce animal mortality and to provide them with the best healthcare. And it is also equally important to introduce artificial insemination and cross-breeding among cattle to have more animals of the best species for higher per-animal milk and meat production. He was of the view that Pakistan was the one of largest producer of the milk. But per animal milk production is low. The most of milk is produced under unhygienic condition that is also a matter of concern. He said only two percent of the farming community was getting 8000 litre milk per animal per annum where the rest of famers were getting 3,000 per animal per annum, which was a question mark on the way of development. He said that in developed nation, the people slaughter the animal giving the said quantity of milk, considering them below the production. Faculty of Veterinary Sciences Dean Prof Dr Laeeq Akbar Lodhi said that all-out efforts are being made to produce the trained manpower in the field. He said that the UAF was also running veterinary clinics to provide the healthcare for the animals. He said that the Faculty has launched new degree programmes in micro biology; and pharmacy.
