One Week Training on “Capacity Building in the Technical Proposal Writing for PARC-ALP grants”

Strengthened academia-industry linkages and promotion of research couture will help the country cope with different challenges including food insecurity, power crisis, unemployment, low productivity and poverty, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He chaired concluding session of one week training titled “capacity building in the technical proposal writing for PARC-ALP grants” arranged by Office of Research Innovation and Research (ORIC), UAF in collaboration with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council. He said that research work should not be piled up in library. It must be transferred into goods and services. Keeping in view, the University had expedited its outreach and community oriented programme to educate the farmers about latest agricultural tools. He said: the food insecurity is one of major areas as it hits 58 percent population of the country. If our farmers do not adopt the modern pattern of agriculture, the country cannot fulfill the dream of food security. He said that the UAF research portfolio has touched to Rs 2 billion which was just less than 400 million four years ago. Dr Stephen Davies from Pakistan Strategic Support Program (PSSP) said good researches enable the nations to deal with different problems effectively. He said that strong linkages between the academia and industry are imperative for the uplift of different sector. He said that researchers were being evaluated in the world on the basis of proposal writing. ORIC Director Prof Dr Asif Ali called for developing the innovative approaches to compete with the rest of the world. Various neglected areas should be also researched that will put the country to the new road of development. He said the workshop polished the skills of participants to write the good research proposals.
