The University of Agriculture Faisalabad scientists have introduced a carrot bed-planter machine that increases profitability and productivity by five times, and saves water and seed consumption upto 50 percent compared to traditional way of farming

UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf visited the demonstration carrot field, developed by Water Management Research Center (WMRC), UAF, of a farmer, Rana Faheem, on the outskirts of the city and he also addressed the farmers there. He was flanked by WMRC Director Dr Muhammad Arshad, Research Officer Ahmad Waqas, and Director Financial Assistance Dr Muhammad Javed and other notables. Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that mechanization was the key to achieve maximum agricultural yield potential. Unluckily, we could not adopt the mechanism. The mechanization enables farmers to achieve productivity at par with the farming community of modern world. Quoiting the example of China, he said they had using the modern trend that is not only helping get maximum production potential but also fetch foreign exchange. He said that in China, every farmer was allocated six Kanal farmer with the compulsion of setting up two tunnel on it. He said that the farmer in China was earning not less than 8,000 dollar per annum. He said that at the time of inception of the country, per capita water availability was 5000 cubic meter which has not declined to 900 cubic meter. He added that it had become need of the hour to shun traditional farming and to promote high-efficient irrigation agriculture for a better tomorrow. He said that it is need of the hour to educate the farmers about the modern irrigation techniques.
