PMC Students Visit UAF

Water-borne diseases become one of the major threats to health in the country, claiming as many as 1.2 million lives every year. This was stated by experts while talking to study tour of 300 students of the Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad to the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The delegation visited the Entomology Department, National Institute of Food Science and Technology, Clinical Medicine and Surgery (CMS) Department, Agri Engineering Faculty and post harvest lab. The coordinator for the tour and Department of Entomology Chairman Prof Dr Jalal Arif said the water-borne diseases account for 60 per cent of child deaths in the country. He said UAF is taking all steps to fight the challenges of malnutrition, viral and water borne diseases, dengue control and food insecurity. His department is providing consultancy to the Punjab Government regarding dengue, he said, adding that tangible researches and awareness workshops are being carried out to overcome the dengue. Dr Humayun Sukrat from PMC said that PMC and UAF should expedite their collaborated effort to address the various health issues in order to serve the humanity. He was of the view that tangible researchers and public awareness are needed to lower down the outbreak of various disease in the country. Prof Dr Amanullah said that the country was losing the 40 percent of the grains in the post harvest process that can be controlled by the promoting of latest technology. NIFSAT Director General Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that more than 50 percent of the population was the victim of the malnutrition. The NIFSAT has launched a degree programme Human Nutrition and Dietetics to produce the manpower in this regard. Prof Dr Anjum Munir while briefing about clean energy said that alternatives energy adoption will help in overcoming energy crisis in the country. He said that the university is working on 15 MW energy plan from the biomass at the campus. Dr Ashur Mehfooz from CMS said that rapid wound healer had been developed by the UAF. PMC officers Dr Shahid and others were present on the occasion.
