University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan visits poster completions

Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday called upon the civil society, experts, and all stakeholders to expedite efforts for saving earth from environment devastation including increasing pollution, depleting water resources and massive urbanization. They addressed the seminar held in connection with World Earth Day arranged by Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences, University of Agriculture Faisalabad in collaboration with Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) at Iqbal Auditorium. Addressing on the occasion, Member of Provincial Assembly Najma Afzal said that the climate changes are playing the havoc with the environments that is the grave concerns for the world. She said promotion of scientific approaches will help the society to lower down the impact. She said that the public awareness regarding the worsening environmental issue was essential that will bring the tangible results. University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said the suitable awareness campaign on issues of the land, water and air pollution related issues will help the cater the need of this era and help provide the healthy environment for future generation. He said that in the modern era, melting glaciers, global warning, and soil destruction was posing the serious threats for the humanity. He said that 58 percent of the population are food insecure in the country. PNRA Principal Scientific Officer Asad Ijaz said that positive usage of nuclear technology is brining the tremendous blessings for the people in industries, agriculture, medical sectors. He said that PNRA is taking all steps to at ensuring safe operation of nuclear facilities and to protect radiation workers, general public and the environment from the harmful effects of radiation by formulating and implementing effective regulations. PNRA Senior Scientific Officer Kamran Siraj said that currently 750 MW of energy are being produced from the nuclear energy. He said that the Government has set the target of producing 40,000 MW from nuclear energy by 2050 in order to meet the demand of increasing population. He said that in the world 13 percent of electricity is being produced from the nuclear energy. Faculty of Agriculture Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Arshad said that it is our duty to provide the clean environment for the coming generation. He stressed upon the people to play their due role so that the challenges can be tackled effectively. Institute Director Prof Dr Javiad Akhtar said that the seminar was aimed at sensitizing the people about the issues. He said that the food security coupled with environmental sciences raising the question about the survival. He said that concrete steps are needed to address the issues. The students also displayed handmade poster completion.
