The University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Farmers Associates Pakistan have inked a Memorandum of Understanding

The University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Farmers Associates Pakistan have inked a Memorandum of Understandings to strengthen their ties in research and outreach activities in order to increase productivity and to address the issues of farming community at their doorstep. The MoU was duly signed by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and FAP President Dr Tariq Bucha. According to the agreement, faculty and students of the UAF would be involved in the ongoing research and outreach activities of the FAP. The UAF and FAP will also jointly conduct workshop, seminars etc related to rural economy that would help the country alleviate the poverty. Talking to the FAP President, the Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the majority of population live in the country live in the rural areas, depending upon the agriculture sector. The sector is the backbone of our economy, contributing 21 percent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The poverty alleviation is linked to development of rural areas in which agriculture is the primary source of income. He stressed the need to collaborated efforts to educate the farmers about the techniques to increase the production. Modern agriculture practices are vital to ensure the food security and to increase the income of farming community. He said that it is a real challenge to transform the knowledge into goods and service. Keeping in view, we have expedited our outreach programme. Dr Tariq Bucha said that farmers are the players who are producing food for the increasing population. If they are equipped with the knowledge of modern practices, the agricultural production will go up manifold. He said that FAP was making all out efforts to help the farming community in order to strengthen them technically and economically. He said that the MoU will encourage the direct cooperation among the experts, scientists and researchers of the both institutions.
