University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Engro Food inked a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the research and development activities and industry- academia relations

The MoU was duly inked by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and Engro Vice President Babur Sultan. According to the agreement, the Engro would provide Rs 5 million during three year for the research and development, scholarship and training programmes. National Institute of Food Science and Technology Director General Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt and other notables were also present on the occasion. Addressing on the occasion, Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that food industry is progressing with the large pace keeping in view the rising population, urban migration, and rising household spending. He stressed upon the food scientists to introduce new tastes and provide the more range to the people in the food items with the value addition. He said that food industry grew by 9.5 per cent in financial year 2013. He said that the UAF was making all-out efforts to produce quality manpower to cater the need of the increasing food industry Babur Sultan said that his company was committed to providing the quality products to the people as per the international standard. He said that his company will help give the financial assistance to the National Institution of Food Science and Technology, UAF a model lecture hall and engro halal centre. He said that academia and industry would bring the tangible results. Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that the malnutrition was the challenges in which the agri experts and food engineers should come up with innovative ideas to deal with the menace. The UAF has kicked off a degree programme in Human Nutrition and Dietetics to address the issue with trained manpower.
