Spouse of Former Indian Election Commissioner and member Rajya Sabha, Mahonar Singh Gill visits stalls at family fun day at UAF

The women role in social economic uplift of Pakistan is remarkable that will bring positive changes in the way to progress and prosperity, said Former Indian Election Commissioner and member Rajya Sabha, Mahonar Singh Gill. He inaugurated the Family Fun Day and Sports Gala at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad. He said women empowerment in the development of any society is essential. I am impressed to see the active participation of women in different activities at the University. India and Pakistan had the similarities in culture. The agriculture is the contributing the lion share in the economies of the both countries. He said that joint efforts on the part of the agricultural experts and scientists are needed to cope with the issue of food insecurity and climate changes. He said that the Ludhiana University had set up a model of the outreach activities in order to address the farming community at their doorstep. He lauded increasing trend of the women enrolment at the varsity, touching 47 percent. Talking to the guest, the UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that no nation can progress without the active participation of women in the every sphere of the life. He stressed the need to take measures for increasing the confidence to women to shoulder the economic activities. He said that university was making all-out efforts to facilitate the women at the campus. He said that university admit the students in academic programme on the district quota as the students of the under privileged areas compete the students of their district. He said that keeping the increasing enrollment in view, the University has also allocated the six residential houses to be replaced for women hostels. He said that the university was taking all possible measures to ensure he quality education at the campus. The Fun day was organized by the Institute of Rural Home Economics and Office of Senior Tutor whereas sports gala is organized by the Agrarian Society. MPs Surrya Naseem and Najma Afzal also present on the occasion. In the sports gala, women cycling race remained the central focus in which 50 girls students participated. It is aimed at promoting the cycling among women in order to overcome their dependency for transportation. In the cycle race, Nageen Farooq clinched the first position whereas Mehrun Nisa and Maha Siddique got the second and third position. The fun brought the colorful events including stalls of the handmade products, jewelry, handicrafts, dresses sketches and portraits. A kid corner was set up to provide the entertainment for the kids including games, swings etc. Moreover, Manohar Singh Gill, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, will address a special lecture at the UAF on March 28 at 11:00 am at Iqbal Auditorium. The title of his speech is Agricultural Development, Trade and Bilateral Relations.
