Glimpses of International Tent Pegging at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad

The six-day International Tent Pegging Championship and National Horse Show was kicked off at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Race Course Ground. The event was inaugurated by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah who was flanked with Nepali Ambassador Bharat Raj Paudyal, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, DCO Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, MNA Haji Akram Ansari, MPA Khalid Saeed and CPO Dr Haider Asharaf. In the Tent Pegging, international teams including Australia, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, South Africa. Oman, Yemen and Pakistan are participating Whereas, hundreds of Horse Riders from across the country will compete in the National Horse Show 2014. It is happening first time in Pakistan that 8 foreign teams are taking part in the Tent Pegging Championship. Last year, the International Teams from UK and South Africa took part in the Championship held at the University. Talking to the media, the Punjab Law Minister said that amid current scenario, it is need of the hour to hold such healthy activities, presenting a soft image and giving a message of peace across the globe. He said that Punjab Government was taking all tangible steps to flourish a culture of healthy activities. The Punjab Youth Festival was also part of the said initiatives, providing a platform to the youth to exhibit their skills. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the Race Course Ground will be refurbished and the international tent pegging to be made a regular annual feature of the varsity. He said that the university was used to hold festivals twice a year in a bid to provide an opportunity to the farmer to interact with the experts and to promote best breed of animals. A large number of horse lovers from different cities and the countryside thronged the Ground to have a delight of the thrilling matches of Champion’s Trophy 2014. Competitions among Dancing Horses and other categories are also be held during National Horse Show. The competition is aimed at providing a platform to the national and international tent pegging players to share their experiences about tent pegging and to promote it across the globe.
