University of Agriculture, Faisalabad will Launch New Degree Program for Remote Sensing and GIS Technology in order to explore futuristic agronomic prospects. This was stated by Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor while addressing the concluding session of Two Weeks Training Program on “Remote Sensing for Monitoring Agricultural Crops & Assessing Soil Salinity” organized by Institute of Soil & Environmental Sciences here on Saturday at New Senate Hall. Dr. Khan said that UAF has been striving for introducing demand oriented new disciplines with innovative approach in order to provide competent human resource for Global Market. He added that more than 100 new elective courses are being offered to the scholars with multifarious prospects. Vice Chancellor urged the need for collaborative and integrated efforts for the implementation of launching new remote sensing degree course. Principal Research Scientist from (CSIRO) Western Australia, Dr. Waqar Ahmad in his Keynote address highlighted the scope of Remote Sensing and GIS technology in Pakistan and stressed the need for establishing state of the Art center for Remote Sensing & GIS at UAF in order to cope with emerging future challenges confronted to Agriculture sector of Pakistan. He was of the view that in our neighborhood India has established 1800 Post Graduate Departments in various Universities and Research Institutions for exploiting prospects of Remote Sensing and GIS technologies in the Region. He added that Pakistan does not have yet initiated any serious attempt in this regard. Prof. Dr. Javed Akhtar, Director Soil & Environmental Sciences UAF said that 35 participants from various Faculties, Institutions and Government Departments had participated in two weeks training program under the supervision of Australian Scientist. He hoped that this training will pave new ways for exploring new vistas in the field of agriculture and environment. Dr. Zulfiqar Ahmad Saqib conducted the program and also thanked the participants. Chief Guest distributed the certificated among successful participants.
