Workshop on “Restorative Potential Nutraceuticals against Malignancy”

The global market size of functional foods and nutraceuticals is standing at $40 billion dollars which is showing increasing trend, said UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He addressed workshop titled “Restorative potential nutraceuticals against malignancy” arranged by the National Institute of Food Sciences and Technology (NIFSAT), University of Agriculture Faisalabad as chief guest. NIFSAT Director General Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt and Dr Kanza Aziz also spoke on the occasion. The Vice Chancellor said that nutraceutical has gained immense importance as it deals with food, or parts of food, that provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of diseases such as cancer etc. He was of the view that the people must be educated about the nutrient values of the edible that will lead to healthy life. He also suggested making the exercise a routine mater. He said that such workshop will elucidate the prophylactic potential of nutraceuticals to mitigate the various oncogenic events. Talking about the food security, the Vice Chancellor stressed upon the scientists to play their due role in ensuring the food , which is one of the major challenge for the country. He said that as many as 60 percent of the people were facing food insecurity in the country. He added that the malnutrition was area of concerns especially for the developing countries. He added that the proper food and exercise reduce the risk of diseases. Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that in the millennium, cancer is prevalent due to the transformations in the lifestyle. He said that scientists, physicians, and pharmacists were focusing more on natural moieties to be used as an adjuvant to pharmaceuticals to fight the menace. He said that the workshop is meant to provide the platform to researchers from different organizations to pace up their efforts.
