Oath Taking Ceremony of Pakistan Society of Agronomy (PSA)

Food insecurity is haunting 60 percent of population in Pakistan. It is the matter of grave concern, said University of Agriculture Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He addressed the oath taking ceremony of Pakistan Society of Agronomy (PSA) at New Senate Hall. He stressed upon the agricultural scientists to pace up their work to boost up production in order to feed the increasing population. The agronomy plays a vital role in increasing productivity amid climate changes and cropping system. He also stressed the need to adopt latest agri practices keeping in view effectiveness. He said that the world population will touch the nine billion by 2050. Ever growing population was posing a threat to food insecurity. He said that the climate changes are damaging the productivity. Glaciers are melting. The per capita water availability had decreased and Pakistan was held in the list of the water scare country. We have to take the extra measures to tackle the issue, he added. Department of Agronomy Chairman / PSA President Prof Dr Ehsan Ullah said that increase in global food production in the past decades have largely been due to better crop management and advances in Agronomy. The consistent efforts are needed to meet the food requirement of growing population. PSA Former President Dr Hafiz Muhammad Akram said that he Pakistan Society of Agronomy is aimed at promoting agronomic research, disseminating scientific information and to provide opportunities for close cooperation and frequent interaction among the agronomist working in different organizations. The newly elected office bearers took oath at the event. The UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Khan administrated the oath. The new cabinet of PSA included Ehsan Ullaf as PSA President, Dr Rasheed Ahmad as Vice President Punjab , Dr Bahir Ahmad Vice President KPK, Dr Inamullah Vice President Sindh , Dr Muhammad Farooq Secretary, Muhammad Idress Secretary and Executive Member Abbas Ali and others.
