Annual Function of Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry

Pakistan is facing threat of viral diseases outbreak owing to climate changes and other factors. In this regard, chemistry, bio-chemistry, biotechnology and pharmacy scientists should enhance their role with collaborative approach in order to serve the humanity, said the University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. He addressed the Annual Function of Chemistry and Bio-Chemistry Department and farewell party arranged for Prof Dr Munir A Sheikh, former Dean, Faculty of Sciences. He was of the view that it was prerequisite to educate the people about precautionary measures to combat the diseases and hazardous effects of chemical . He lauded the steps being taken on the part of Punjab Government to fight the dengue. The government overcome the massive dengue outbreak within the few years where the other countries took the several years to address the issue. Talking about UAF research initiatives, he said that the University was taking up all possible steps to conduct the valuable researches in order to come up solutions facing the humanity and agricultural sector. The research portfolio of UAF had crossed the Rs 2 billion which was only four million rupees five year ago. He said that the University had produced as many as 1188 PhDs so far including 126 PhDs in the field of chemistry and biochemistry. He also lauded the excellent services rendered by Prof Dr Munir A Shiekh in academia and research which brought the good name for the institution. Dean Faculty of Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Javed said basic sciences works as the foundation for the applied sciences. He was of view that Pakistan is blessed with talented people who can move the country to the new horizon of progress and prosperity.Prof Dr Munir A Shiekh said that good teachers are the guarantee of the bright future. He said that his stay at the campus had brought the memories that provide him a sense of happiness throughout his life. He thanked the university community for cooperating and works as the family for the development. Chairman Dr Asgahr Bajwa said that the Department was making all out efforts for producing the quality manpower. Dr Amir Jamil thanked the audience for attending the function.
