The National Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Research and Development Fund and the University of Agriculture Faisalabad will work together in the area of research keeping in view importance of information technology in agriculture. It was discussed at a meeting held between ICT R&D Fund Solicitation and Evaluation General Manger Ahmad Afzal and UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan at VC Chamber. Ahmad Afzal said that the time had come to get the benefit from the technological advancement in order to excel the economy. By using the modern technology, the agriculture of the country can be boosted manifold. He said they were focusing on industry-academia partnership with the help of funding concrete development and research initiatives. He said emerging information and knowledge era is opening new economic and social development through information and communication technologies. The Vice Chancellor said that precision agriculture had gained popularity across the globe, enabling the countries to reduce the cost of production with balanced inputs usage through information technology, Geographical Information System and Space Technology. He said that keeping in view, the increasing population, boost in per acre production was vital to ensure the food security. He said that the information technology had made the world global village. One can get information ranging from arts to science on a single click. Talking about research, he said that external research portfolio of the country had touched to Rs 2 billion.
