Prof David Olden, senior research fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) meets University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan at his Chamber

The research culture must be boosted up, giving the solutions to different problems facing the society in order to emerge a developed nation. This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan while addressing the meeting of PSSP Competitive Grant Programme : Projects’ Meeting on Agricultural And Rural Markets issues at Syndicate Room. Prof David Olden, senior research fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) was the chief guest while Andrew Comstock, Senior Research Assistant was the guest of honour on the occasion. Institute of Agri and Resource Economics Director Prof Dr Muhammad Ashfaq, Water Management Research Institute Director Prof Dr Allah Baksh, Dr Ghulam Muhammad and other notables were present on the occasion. The Vice Chancellor said that UAF was taking all possible steps to improve the research culture. The UAF scientists are working on Rs 2billion international research projects on the different issues that will bring tangible results for the society. He added that it is need of the hour to transfer the knowledge into goods and service by giving awareness to farmers regarding state-of-the-art researches to apply it into the field so that will help in increasing per acre production. Keeping in view, the UAF has paced up its outreach programme and organizing two festivals in a year. He was of the view that the UAF is producing seven research journals out of which three are included in the list of impact factors publications. Prof David Olden said that food security is the area for which we have to expedite our efforts. He said that tangible researches will help bring tangible result to address the issues facing the agriculture sector. He was briefed about the different projects being run at the UAF under the comparative grant. He said that IFPRI's 2020 vision is a world where every person has access to sufficient food to sustain a healthy and productive life, where malnutrition is absent, and where food originates from efficient, effective, and low-cost food systems that are compatible with sustainable use of natural resources.
