University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) is going to ink a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) aiming at sharing knowledge, and expertise create a vibrant and galvanized human resource meet the growing energy demands in a sustainable manner. The MOU would be signed under the arrangement of Punjab Government to explore new avenues meeting the energy needs with the help of Chinese experts as agriculture is the largest energy consumer in the country. The assertion was made by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan while presiding over the meeting of the Deans’ Committee here at New Syndicate Hall on Monday morning. The University, he said, was the one of its kind that is going to offer about 33 new need based degree programs that include PhD Physics, PhD Ecology, PhD Genetics, BSc Energy System Engineering, BSc Environmental Engineering, BS (Software Engineering), BS Bioinformatics, BS Computer Science, BS (Information Technology), BBA (Hons.), BSc (Hons.) Dairy Science Program, Pharmacy-D, MA English, MA Sociology, MA Economics, MSc Mathematics, M.Ed. and an Associate Degree in Education meant to produce trained manpower to cope with the challenges. The Higher Education Commission, he said, has termed the UAF initiative of engaging students on hourly bases, a role model for all universities of the country that would ease-out financial constraints of the students and inculcate a sense of dignity of work among the youth. He said that UAF management was considering provide such training to its students at Laboratory Schools that, he said, would enhance their professional as well as pedagogical and communication skills. Dr. Ahmad said that Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in a meeting on alternative energy had appreciating the UAF Engineers and gave approval to upscale the UAF Biogas Tube-wells at provincial level with the subsidy by the Punjab Government. During the meeting, it was decided to transform lighting system with LED System to limit the growing utility bills.
