Seminar on Awareness Raising Regarding Human Rights and Minorities Affairs

Speakers of a seminar on Awareness Raising Regarding Human Rights and Minorities Affairs expressed their concerns over the ignorance and unawareness about the basic and fundamental human rights. They were of the view that in Pakistan, people do not have adequate knowledge and awareness about their rights that resulted in numerous sufferings and deprivation and putting the whole society in a severe stress and anxiety. The seminar jointly organized by Department of Rural Sociology and Human Rights & Minority Affairs Department, Government of the Punjab aiming at creating awareness among the masses and sensitizes the youth about their rights. Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Zafar participated the event as Chief Guest while guests of honor were Mr. George Clamant former MNA, and Advocate Arif Sindhu. Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Zafar said that in order to make adequate representation of the minorities in all walks of life, the government placed them under quota system that is actually to preserve their rights. He said that a century back, in USA, the Negros were being sold in an open market but today the same minority was enjoying leading political position in the country. He said, with the passage of time, eventually change always finds its way but, he said, one should remain intact and a play his pivotal role in the society. Prof. Dr. Ashfaq Ahmad Maann emphasized to take care of all rights belonging to parents, kids, neighbors, husband and wife and stressed the need to preserve them thereby to make the society peaceful and prosperous. George Clamant said we need to pay respect to humanity and treat all people equally. He underscored that by constitution of the country the minorities should be given equal rights in all fields of the life. Arif Sindhu said all religions give immense respect to the parents, so we need to preserve their rights. He asked the participants to always uphold the truthfulness that would transform the society in a civilized way.
