2-Day Exhibition of Herbal Medicines

Over 70% population of the World was consulting alternative medicine practitioners and people were intending to get more advice for chronic diseases particularly cardiac and hepatitis C. this was stated by the Speakers at one day seminar on “We and Natural Medicine” jointly organized by Inst. of Horticultural Sciences (IHS) UAF and Pakistan Tibbi Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association at New Senate Hall of the University here on Thursday. Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor presided over the seminar, Mian Ajmal Faooq, President all Pakistan Textile Processing & Manufacturers Association (APTPMA) was the Chief Guest while Muhammad Idrees of “Hamdard”, Dr. Zahid Ashraf and Hamid Ashraf from Ashraf Laboratories and Hafiz Muhammad Younas the founder Pakistan Tibbia College Faisalabad were guest of honor other Speakers include Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aslam Pervez, Senior Tutor UAF and Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman, Principal University Community College. Dr. Iqrar said that five departments of the University had been conducting research on medicinal plants and their effect on human health and most of the work had been replicated. He urged the scientists to utilize joint collaborative efforts for providing health services to the community at their door step. Dr. Khan called for more research activities on indigenous herbs and reiterated his commitment to preserve this treasure at botanical garden of the varsity. Mian Ajmal Farooq said that Pakistan was blessed with huge amount of herbs and these herbs were unofficially smuggled to many countries. He stressed the need for more collaborative scientific research on herbal medicines so that common man could be benefited during diseases. Prof. Dr. Aslam Pervez in his welcome address highlighted the role of IHS for the promotion of botanical research and community service activities and said that Institute was extending vocational training and professional capacity building services during summer vacations and other alternate months. Dr. Khalil-ur-Rehman said that University had been succeeded to cure hepatitis and cardiac diseases through herbal medicines. Other speakers also urged the alternate health practitioners to come forward for capacity building programs initiated by UAF so that they could provide sound health services to the deprived classes of the country. Chief Guest later on inaugurated the 2-day herbal medicine exhibition held outside the main library and inspected various stalls.
