Speakers at A Farmer’s Day urged the need for transformation agricultural Landscape by adopting genetic revolution in the Country. Farmer Day was organized by Monsanto Pakistan in collaboration with the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) University of Agriculture, Faisalabad at Agronomy Farm on Thursday. Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor, Country Lead Monsanto Mirza Aamir and Technology Development Officer, M. Atif Majeed spoke on the occasion. UAF Vice Chancellor while addressing as a Chief Guest said that we should have to minimize gulf between technology and end users by devising modern dissemination and information strategies. He said that University was holding 5000 acres land for the purpose of experimentation and showcasing innovative approaches. He was of the view that genetic revolution had been knocking at our door step since 1997 but we could not exploit the potential of genetic resources that is why we are lagging behind in agricultural productivity as compare to rest of the World. Mirza Muhammad Aamir said that India was obtaining 24 million bales of Cotton in 2000 and after adoption of BT Cotton the production volume has touched 34 million bales at present. He maintained that academia and Industrial linkage mechanism evolves new ideas and University of Agriculture Faisalabad has been facilitating private sector for showcasing their new agronomic packages. He told that more than 4000 visitors have witnessed Genuity VT Double Pro Corn in value tech showcase trial at agronomy farm he hoped that this trial would be a milestone in genetically modified corn productivity. Mr. Atif Majeed thanked the participants for participating in farmers gathering. A large number of Researchers, Scientists and Farmers from various parts of Punjab, participated the event.
