Seminar on Energy

Pakistan has to take five years to overcome energy crisis if tangible steps are taken on the part of coming government, said Oil and Gas Regularity Authority Chief Saeed Ahmad Khan. He addressed a seminar on Energy organized by University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Executive Director Higher Education Commission Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Fesco Chief Abdul Jabbar Khan, Prof Dr Muhamamd Ashfaq , and other notables also spoke on the occasion. Saeed Ahmad said that oil reservoirs in the world will face a sharp decline after a half century so we have to shift to other resources like coal etc. He was of the view that natural gas followed by coal is the cheapest ways of producing energy. He added that Pakistan-Iran gas project would prove a hallmark step to overcome the crisis. He told the audience that the 50 percent of energy needs are being met with the natural gas, 30 percent from electricity and 6.6 percent from coal LPG. He said that as the electricity issue is concerned, power outage are being made because of heavy circular debt. The steps are needed to overcome. Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that 70 percent of total energy reservoirs are housed in the Muslim world. But despite the fact, 40 percent of these countries are living below poverty line which is the area of concerns. He stressed the need to collaborated efforts to end the hunger from the country. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the alternative sources of energy like wind, bio energy and bio fuel needs to be applied to cope with the situation. He was of the view that the University would open a department of energy to produce the qualified manpower. He said that the alternative sources such as solar energy can help cope with the situation. Abdul Jabbar said that in the July, Faisalabad can face massive load shedding. He said that they are introducing reforms and making measure for further their power distribution services.
