UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan along with officials visit Book Fair held under Lyallpur Literature Festival, UAF

Five-day Lyallpur Literature Festival organized by the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad on Tuesday entered the second day. The students from 31 universities across the country are participating at the festival. The event is organised by Office of Senior Tutor; and Department of Libraries on the direction of UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. At the Punjabi Takra, Hafiz Mohiudin Ali Virk from the Government College University Lahore bagged the title of Punjabi Takra winner whereas Azim Gill from BZU, Multan, stood second and Umer Asghar Virk from GC University Faisalabad got the third position. In the initial round of bilingual declamation, students form seven universities including King Edward Medical University Lahore, University of Sardodha, GCU Lahore, Chenab College Jhang, Punjab University, BZU Multan and University of Sargodha, Jamshoro, qualified for the final round. The festival, having two components including All Pakistan Students Week and Book Fair, is meant to promote literary activities and to provide a platform to the youth to showcase their abilities before the gathering. At the book fair, renowned publishers across the country staged their stalls, which remain a source of attraction for the books lovers. As many as 36 books stalls, having more than one lac books were set up at the event. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan flanked by high ranked officials also visited the Book Fair and met the students. He stressed the need to make the relations strong with books as they are the best companions. He said the fair was aimed at providing an opportunity to the students to purchase the books on subsidized ranging from all disciplines at their doorsteps. He said that such festivals help flourish the literary culture in the society that will open up new chapters of the progress for the country. On March 6, quiz competition, final round of Mushara and bait bazi will be arranged. On March 7, the day will bring folk songs competition and drama contest first round. On March 8, drama contest final round and concluding ceremony will be held. Moreover, UAF Inter Faculties University Sports Gala is in full swing. It is aimed at flourishing the sports culture among the youth. The gala, arranged by Directorate of Sports will continue till March 8. Teams from all faculties, NIFSAT, UAF sub campuses (Dera Ghazi Khan and Toba Tek Singh) are participating at the event. On March 5, tug-of-war and kabadi contest were held. The games for men include athletics, archery, badminton, basketball, chess, football, handball, kabaddi, rugby, table tennis, tug of war and volleyball (smash). The games for women include Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Handball and Table Tennis.
