Punjab Agricultural Minister Ahmad Ali Aulak said that a sub-campus of University of Agriculture Faisalabad would be set up in Layyah to provide an opportunity of quality agricultural education to the locals at their door step. He was inaugurating a one-day Greyhound Race, Bullock Race and Fancy Birds Show at the site of UAF sub-campus in Burewala. He was flanked by Secretary Agriculture Azmat Ali Ranjha and UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. The Minister said that a special focus on forestry, wild life and range management will be made at the sub campus in Layyah. He said agriculture is the backbone of economy. In this regard, trained manpower equipped with latest agricultural tools will open up new avenue of progress for the country. Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said the sub campuses would provide an opportunity of agricultural education to the local youth at the affordable cost helping boost up agricultural production. He said that setting up the campus in the far flung areas of the province is the need of the hour. He quoted an example of University of California and Florida which have at least ten campuses. He said that Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India, is operating seven sub campuses in the Indian Punjab. He said UAF is top ranked university of the country and one of the only two Pakistani universities which are ranked in top 300 universities of the world. The show opened with the horse dance that attracted scores of locals. As the beat of drum filled the air, villagers thronged the event terming it a source of enjoyment. In the bird and fancy show, different species were displayed to attract birds’ lovers. Bullock Race and Greyhound were the main source of attraction for the speculators. It is pertaining to mention here, the Punjab Government has provided 153 acres to the UAF for establishment of the sub-campus, Burewala. Development work on the sub campus will start soon.
