Dr Dilbagh Singh, agriculture expert from USA, on Tuesday visited University of Agriculture Faisalabad and called on UAF experts to discuss the area of collaborations.

The meeting was held at Faculty of Agriculture Dean Office that was attended by UAF Dean Agriculture Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dean Social Sciences Dr Mahmood A Randhawa, Dean Agriculture Engineering Dr Allah Buksh, Dean Faculty of Science Dr Asghar Bajwa, Dr Jalal Arif, Hafiz Abdul Qayum, Controller Dr Tahir Siddique, Dr Sajjad ur Rehman, Dr Aslam Mirza, Dr Shahzad Basra, Dr Abdul Wahid, Dr Mansoor Sahi, Syed Qamar Bukhari, and others notables. Dr Dilbagh Singh said that the UAF was one of the oldest and elite agricultural institutions that was taking numerous steps in the uplift of the agriculture sector. He was of the view that the agriculture was backbone of the Pakistan economy that was contributing 20 percent to the agriculture sector. He said that he was given a great honor in Pakistan. Dr Muhammad Aslam said that steps are afoot to ensure the quality research work at the campus at par with international sector. He said that UAF was the topped ranked agricultural university in Pakistan. It is also finding its space in the various international ranking systems. He said that per acre agriculture productivity in the country was very low as compared to developed nations. He said it was because of multiple challenges including traditional way of farming, seed issue, decreasing land fertility, and others. He also visited the Entomology Department, Plant Pathology, Botany departments and its lab. It is imperative to ensure the biosafety measures in laboratories to protect from harmful incidents. It was stated by experts at workshop titled “Fundamentals of Laboratory Biosafety” arranged at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The workshop was arranged by Department of Biochemistry, UAF in collaboration with Pakistan Biological Safety Association at New Senate Hall. The event was chaired by UAF Dean Faculty of Sciences Dr Muhammad Asghar while Departments Chairman Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Prof Dr. Khalil-ur-Rahman, Dr. Sadia Aslam and others were also spoke on the occasion . Dr. Muhammad Asghar said that biosafety prevents loss of biological integrity with the focusing of ecology and human health. He said that the workshop is meant to guide the participants about basic principles of laboratory biosafety. Dr. Muhammad Shahid said that biosafety is the need of the day and such type of interactive learning is important to promote the message of biosafety. Dr Khalil ur Rahman also said that biosafety is must for all sciences as well as implementation of biosafety measures is matter of concern that needs careful attention. Dr. Sadia Aslam stressed upon the need to ensure biosafety measures in laboratories for a safe working and healthy environment.
