UAF VC addresses the participants of seminar on Building Peace and Conflict Resolution in collaboration with US Inst of Peace

Speakers of a seminar on “Building Peace and Conflict Resolution” emphasized the need to resolve all conflicts with a positive frame of mind, tolerance, unequivocal commitment, pragmatic and balanced approach as history tells that out of one thousand recent years, mankind spent only three hundred years in peace and tranquility and rest 700 years were named to various conflicts between nations and communities. The seminar was organized by Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with US Institute of Peace (USIP) here at new senate hall on Wednesday morning with member Provincial Assembly Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan as chief guest and UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar A Khan as guest of honor. Opening the house, US expert on conflict resolution, Dr. Andrew Robertson said the US congress in 1984, created the US Institute of Peace aiming at preventing the violent conflicts and to facilitate the parties to resolve conflicts through dialog and in a peaceful manner adding that besides congress, and legislative houses, we do have a think tank to advice the government on national and international affairs. He said besides other engagements, his institute used to working on partnering to build civil society in Pakistan, hosting radio shows on conflict resolution, closely working with communities to empower women and engage youth, and training teachers and students in conflict management. He was of the view that every conflict needs different process to deal with but rival parties need to come with a positive frame of mind to listen the others before going to persuade that would lead to a transformed relationship, he emphasized. He revealed that in recent past, USIP had made a significant contribution in capacity building of Police personals at Sahala Police Training Academy regarding conflict resolution.
