UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan inspects the award winner flowers stalls at UAF

Two-day Winter Flower Show- 2012 ended at UAF with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan chief guest of the concluding ceremony. During the exhibition, students from UAF, Lab Schools, ARRI, NIAB and NIBGE participated with their flowers stalls. The chrysanthemums, whose origin is traced back to ancient China, are on display in full glory at flower show. The show was organized by Institute of Horticultural Sciences, UAF. The stalls were divided into some categories depending upon the nature and philosophy of of the organizers. The participating organizations include UAF, Lab Schools, Ayub Agriculture Research Institute, NIAB, Sitara Chemicals, and NIBGE. The flowers, arranged on either side of a green plot of Faculty of Agriculture attracted a large number of visitors. Addressing the gathering UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan described the floriculture and landscaping an emerging business in the world and urged the students to enrich their hands on training to equip them with the latest trends of the business. A judging panel gave points to the flower displays of each participating organization based on the number of flowers in a pot, the visual aesthetics of the display, the quality of the flowers and diversity of flowers in a single display. According to results, in Group 1, NIAB stood 1st followed by AARI. In Group II, Autumn flowers, Indoor/house plants, varieties of cactus and succulents won by NIAB, and AARI respectively. Sitara Chemicals won the double chrysanthemum, 24 extra ordinary plants chrysanthemum, and maximum variety of potted chrysanthemum within an area of 5 x 10’. The amateurs and individual competitions of basket of flowers won by Waleed, Liaba Matloob, M. Shoaib Shah and Kaneez Fatima. 24 Potted plants of chrysanthemum of different varieties won by Ahmad and Asad, Aman Zehra, Mehak, Aysha Shahid and Aysha Khalid. Division C was won by Junior Lab School. The competition of flower arrangement was won by Urfa, Faria Azhar, and M. Imran. Presenting the fresh flowers in reflection of spiritualism, tolerance, and hanging arrangements were won by Rashid Iqbal, Kanza syed, and Waleed, Razia Irshad, Syed Inamaullah, Saman Chaughtai, Mehwish Ikram, Shaza, and Kanza Syed respectively. Nurseries Display was named to Waleed followed by Naeem BSc 7th Semester. Special Display on table was won by J.K Agri. Farms, Inam Ullah, and Ali Hasan whereas special display on ground was won by Furukh & Shahbaz, Amjad Nawaz and Waleed respectively. Day care centre was given special prize. The Chief Guest, distributed prizes among the winners of the exhibition and termed the show a crowed puller in the cold days of winter. Dean, Faculty of Agriculture Prof. Dr. M. Arshad and Director Institute of Horticultural Science, Prof. Dr. M. Amjad also spoke on the occasion.
