Inauguration of World Space Week activities and Agri. Exhibition, Fancy Birds Show, Scientific Model, and Water Rocket Competition

Colorful and most irresistible events at University of Agriculture Faisalabad have been opened with an inauguration of World Space Week activities and Agri. Exhibition, Fancy Birds Show, Scientific Model, and Water Rocket Competition. The event of World Space Week at Iqbal Auditorium was overwhelmingly and actively participated by students from more than 50 schools of the Faisalabad Districts. It is first time that SUPARCO is celebrating World Space Week at UAF which is clubbed with Rabi Festival and Youth Festival of the Punjab Government to bring a more colorful program for the people. Addressing the participants as Chief Guest, UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan praised the role of Chairman SUPARCO General Ahmad Bilal who extended his support for holding a successful show at UAF. He said that he personally had the chance to witness the shuttle launching in 1993. Referring towards late US president John F. Dr. Khan urged the new generation to set their targets high and pursue them with hard work and commitment. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan described the information technology and emerging of media as an effective tool of communication in national and international affairs an outcome of space technology which inspires the youth in general and the new generation in particular. Earlier, guest of honor and director SUPARCO Mr. Abdul Ghafoor said celebration of world space day is an annual event aiming at spreading awareness to the masses and inspire them to become the member of space arena. He said this year the theme of the world space week “space for human safety and security” is He said agriculture is an important segment of the Pakistan Society as it largely depends on Indus basin and canal irrigation system. He said UN General Assembly had proclaimed to celebrate a world space week for the betterment of the humanity and hence it has become the central event of the world. He said in 2007, ninety four nations organized more than 2000 events with a participation of 1.3 million people which is a hallmark of its global significance. He said amazing changes are being taking place in the space and his organization is helping the agriculture system by satellite remote sensing, GIS, and Land Surveying for weather forecasting, crop production estimates, flood warnings and damages of crops. He said UAF has provided a vibrant platform to the young school children for sharing the science knowledge. Mr. Abdul Ghafoor vowed to make effective collaborations with UAF to work together in mutual endeavors. During the event, students from Junior and Laboratory Girls High School presented skits related to space technology by put space cloths and showcasing the paraphernalia of the space world coupled with patriotic national songs. Later, at Hockey Grounds of the University a Water Rocket Competition was organized and a vast majority of the school students participated in the event.
