UAF likely to set up a cattle market (Mall Mandi) at Narwala Road Bypass

University of Agriculture Faisalabad likely to set up a cattle market (Mall Mandi) at Narwala Road Bypass aiming at steering the local farmers out of middlemen’s exploitation and enable them to sell their cattle directly to the customers. This was stated by UAF Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan (SI) while chairing the Finance & Planning Committee of the University at New Syndicate Hall. During the meeting, it was decided to create a pension fund with seed-money of 5 million rupees. The meeting decided to make students paid work compulsory to equip them with hands on work experience after segregating the contingent paid staff budget into 60-40 ratio for students and daily paid labor. The committee expressed great concerns over uphill utility charges and was of the view to arrest the rising trend by keeping a vigilant eye on electricity usage at various residential hostels and colonies. The committee urged the university management to introduce some corner cutting mechanism so as to avert financial paucity and raise its own resources. Addressing the house, UAF VC Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan said despite very difficult time of financial crunch, UAF was fortunate enough to get approved its mega project of 502 million rupees by the Planning Commission of Pakistan for up gradation of UAF sub campus at T.T. Singh. He told UAF management was striving hard to put in place a state of the art microbiology lab with the financial assistance of IDB and USDA. He revealed that during the last five years, Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) sent 100 people for foreign training whereas UAF pushed about 200 faculty members for overseas training only in one year. The Finance and Planning Committee after detailed discussion recommended the proposed deficit budget of 762.343 million for onward consideration of the syndicate and later to the senate. Deputy Secretary Finance Muhammad Iqbal, ASA president Dr. Sheikh Munir Ahmad, Registrar Ch. Muhammad Hussain, Treasurer Rana Abdul Ghafoor Khan, Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean Faculty of Agri. Engineering & Technology Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad and others also spoke on the occasion and actively participated in the proceedings.
