Renowned Entomologists Dr. Arshad Shakeel addresses the UAF Stake-holders workshop organized by department of Agri. Entomology Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Dr. Anjum Sohail and others visible on the stage

Pakistan was losing its fruits, vegetables and agricultural Global markets due to in judicious and excessive use of insecticide without observing good agricultural practices. This was stated by Prof. Dr. iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF) while addressing stake-holders conference organized by the Department of Agri-Entomology at New Senate Hall here on Tuesday. He maintained that Integrated Pest Management (IPM) was the only way to adopt plant protection mechanism keeping in view the prescribed standards of International Agronomic practices. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan expressed his concerns over long residuals insecticides imports in the Country which were creating hazardous threats to human health. Dr. Iqrar added that UAF was establishing strong linkages with private sectors industry and organizations so that maximum number of students could be sent for internship programs. He was of the view that 1500 students had been engaged for internship program every year and most of them were being sent to pesticide companies. He urged the need for joint collaborative outcome in order to promote research in the field of plant protection in the country. Prof. Dr. Anjum Sohail, Chairman Department of Agri-Entomology while presenting welcome address said that his department had conducted 2-Day post graduate entomological conference and stake-holders workshop in order to join hands with industry, farming community, and public sector organizations for devising new innovative approaches in entomological science. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jalal Arif, Principal Officer Public Relations & Publications (PRP), Dr. Arshad Shakeel, Dr. Muhammad Aslam and others also spoke on the occasion.
