The kissan convention was organized by University of Agriculture on the third day of its Spring Festival

Speakers at Kissan convention on Wednesday urged the farming community to adopt modern agricultural practices, water conservation methods and balance use of fertilizer in a bid to boost up agricultural productivity of the country. The kissan convention was organized by University of Agriculture on the third day of its Spring Festival. The festival, which has become central point of the attention of the locals, brings rural culture and knowledge based events including farmers convention, agricultural exhibition, flower show, fancy bird show, horse and cattle show, tent pegging, milk competition, cow and buffaloes beauty contest and cultural shows as well as international seminars and conferences. The convention was chaired by former Agriculture Minister Ch Sultan Ali while Dean Faculty of Agriculture Prof Dr Muhamamd Ashfaqn was also present on the occasion. He stressed to need to address the issue of the small farmers comprising 80 percent of the farming community that would help increase the production of the country. He said although the country is blessed with four seasons, best canal system and best ecological system but due to traditional ways of farming, we are lagging behind in the agriculture. He said that the women education plays vital role in the development of the country but unfortunately, the literacy rate in the rural women was very low that must be increased by tangible steps. Prof Dr Muhamamd Ashafaq said that the objective of convention is to educate the farmers about the modern techniques and breeds in a bid to increase production of agricultural in the country. Dr Abid Mahmood from Ayub Research said country experienced best cotton production with 11.7 million bales that was best one in the history of the country. District Officer Agriculture Abdul Hameed said that the extension department is taking all out efforts to transfer the research by their various projects including school farms and other. DDO livestock Najam and Dr Nazir Ahmad and Prof Dr Ahsan ullah also spoke on the occasion.
