Glimpses on the second day of spring festival arranged by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad

The United States Agency for International Development Director Office of Economic Growth and Agriculture (EGA) Mr. William M. Patterson inaugurated the second day of University of Agriculture Faisalabad six-day spring festival in which a large number of people from all walks of life especially farming community thronged. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and other high ranked officials were also present. Other members of USAID delegation were Mr. Sajjad Mughal Deputy Director EGA, Kamran Niazi Project Manager EGA, and Asad Khan Project Management Specialist in Agriculture. The festival, which has become central point of the attention of the locals, brings rural culture and knowledge based events including farmers convention, agricultural exhibition, flower show, fancy bird show, horse and cattle show, tent pegging, milk competition, cow and buffaloes beauty contest and cultural shows as well as international seminars and conferences. UAF Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan told the delegation the festival was aimed at promoting modern agricultural practices and outreach activities keeping in view increasing per acre agrarian production to cope with the food insecurity situation facing the country. The agricultural exhibition became a source of attraction for the people in which more than 50 stalls were displayed by various departments of varsity and other agricultural organization. The exhibition was having distinguished of flower show, featuring of dozens of different exhibits and stalls. It is bustling with colors and creative idea, which is making it a pleasant and lively attraction as well as a fitting celebration of the spring season. The colours and fragrance of flowers has a soothing effect. The activities were refreshing and would have a positive impact on the minds of people. Other main attractions for the visitors were stalls depicting the pictures of rural areas with demonstration of rural culture. At the stalls, students presented daily life activities of the folk women busy in routine domestic and financial activities. The goal of the stalls was to revive our culture as well as norms and values. One of the stalls in the agri exhibition was comprising solar energy units in order to promote the technology as the country was worst affected by electricity crisis. The other stalls were displaying the modern agri implements in a bid to increase agricultural productivity of the country. The tent pegging and horse show that was displayed at the Race Course Ground of the varsity attracted a large of horse lovers. In the regard, a horse City was set up at the campus in which tens of hundreds horses have been brought from different parts of the country. Which were displayed before the audience to enthrall them and promote the best breed of horses in the country. The cow and buffaloes competition was also opened at the campus for promoting the best breeds. It is worth mentioning here that the university is used to hold such festival twice in a year and it has become an annual feature. Last year, tens of thousands people along with their families thronged to the festival to share festivities and get rid from the tension of routine life. The same spirit is witnessed this time.
