Keeping mounting unemployment of PhDs in view, the Higher Education Commission needs to review and rationalize PhDs policy by narrowing down admissions after analysing the situation of enrollment viz job market.

It was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa. He was talking to a seminar on Self Assessment Report arranged by the Quality Enhancement Cell, UAF. He said that time had come where we have to set result-oriented goals that deliver the society in particular and country in general. He viewed that research for the sake of research made no difference in the lives of the people. The researchers have to come up with viable solutions and products to redress masses’ grievances. He said that until 60s, the people of country had been enjoying prosperity. But after that, with each passing year, the socioeconomic condition went on deterioration like a slope. He showed his concern that despite being an agrarian society; the country was importing seeds, animals breeding materials, and vegetables worth billions of the rupees. He urged the agricultural experts to look into the matter and devise a comprehensive strategy to overcome it. Talking about trained manpower, he said that we have to invest on technicians and field assistants etc with foreign trainings to coach them about modern trends. He said that qualitative change was imperative to excel in every sphere of the life. Talking about education, he said that the system of University Grant Commission was replaced with the birth of Higher Education Commission in 2002. He said that the HEC had achieved tremendous hallmark to broaden the higher education, flourish research culture, salary package of faculty and to produce highly qualified manpower. He expressed his concern that we have not to compromise on quality as increasing enrollment within same teaching and infrastructure facility was responsible for dwindled education standards. Talking about declining trends of Muslims, he said that most of us even didn’t read the Quran and Sunnah with translations . If we read the Quran and follow in the footprints of Last and Final Prophet Hazarat Muhammad Peace Be Upon, we will emerge as ideal nation across the globe. Talking about Eid Milad Un Nabi (PBUH), he said that the university had mapped out a comprehensive plan to celebrate with religious zeal and enthusiasm. He said that day will dawn with Quran recitation followed by Naat Khawani and a lecture on Seerat Nabi and the challenge of modern era will be delivered by Asrar Hussain Muavia at Central Mosque at 8 am. The main gate, old campus , new campus, auditorium and all the imprtatn buildings of the varsity have been illuminated and decorated. QEC Director Amir Jamil urged the government to boost up the budget of education as it is negligible compared to other nations. He said that quality education will pave a way to fight the challenges of the modern era. He said that QEC was making all out efforts to ensure the quality of research and academics.
