Corruption is eating up social, financial and moral fabric of the society for which teachers, parents and other stakeholders have to pay special attention to inculcate Islamic values among the people, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa.

He addressed an awareness seminar on Anti-Corruption arranged by the Character Building Society of UAF and National Accountably Bureau (NAB) at Iqbal Auditorium. He said that there was need to create awareness among the people about the negative impacts and different kind of corruption to wipe out menace that was hampering the progress. He said that we have to develop the habit of self-accountability among the people for a healthy society. He said that the injection of good ethics would pave the way to vanish the corruption. He said that corruption means not only financial corruption but also lack of commitment in shouldering responsibilities, work, and education etc was also a kind of corruption. He added that the university was making all out efforts to inject the good characteristics among the students so that they would play their effective role in the development. NAB Lahore Director Muhammad Hasnain said that corruption means moral impurity, act of wrongdoings, and misuse of authority for private gains. He added different methods including bribery, embezzlement, and nepotism were being used for the corruption. He urged the people not to be engaged in any activity which lead to breach of law. He said that they had recovered as many Rs 300 billion so far. Whereas, the conviction rate is 76 percent. He said the corruption was an evil that reduced the productivity and economic growth; and reduced domestic and foreign investment; and deepened the extent of poverty and undermine the legitimacy of state. He said that NAB is aimed at to be a credible, effective, efficient, and dynamic anti-corruption organization that creates an enabling environment for a corruption-free society by engagement all stakeholders in the fight against corruption. He said that they have the missions to eliminate the corruption through three pronged strategy including enforcement, prevention and awareness. NAB Deputy Director Hassan Ali Sukhira, UAF Registrar Muhammad Hussain, Dr Tahir Siddiqui and other notables also spoke on the occasion. They also took out the rally commencing from Iqbal Auditorium and concluded at Admin Block to create the awareness about anti-corruption.
