As many as 821 million people in the global do not have enough food to lead a healthy life for which joint efforts are needed on the part of society, policy makers, researchers, NGOs and others stakeholders.

Experts stated this while addressing at awareness walk and seminars held in connection with World Food Day arrange by Faculty of Food Nutrition and Home Sciences and Faculty of Agricultural Engineering University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology on Tuesday. Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences, Dean Dr Masood Sadiq Butt, and Faculty of Agriculture Engineering and Technology Dean Dr Allah Buksh led awareness walk. While Food Engineering Chairman Dr Rana Azam, Dr and other notables also spoke on the occasion. Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that the food insecurity was hitting 58 percent of population in Pakistan. He added that malnutrition was the area of grave concern. Although we are abundant in the food, but 50 percent of our population was malnourished. He said that there is a need to create the awareness about balanced usage of food. He said that usage of junk food in the people which is not good for health. He said that this year calls upon us to take timely action for achieving Zero Hunger by 2030. He also said that the food diversity was essential for mitigating the issue of malnutrition. He said that the UAF has kicked off a BS programme in Human Nutrition and Dietetics to produce the skilled manpower that is replicated in 15 universities. Dr Allah Buksh said that this year’s theme ‘Our Actions are our Future. A Zero Hunger World by 2030 is possible’ reminds us of the need to ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable and nutritious food at all times to live a healthy and happy life. He said that joint efforts are desired to fight the challenges of the hunger from the society. He said that Day is observed in 150 countries and it is aimed to ensure the food security to end the hunger from the world.
