Speakers at a seminar on Monday called for discouraging the usage of plastic bags that are not only causing environmental issue but also decreasing the soil fertility. The seminar was arranged by Climate Changes Laboratory and students of MS Climate Changes, University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The students also distributed cloth shopping bags among the participants and residential colonies to promote culture of environmental friendly bags among the people. Addressing on the occasion, Prof Dr Ashfaq Ahmad said that plastic bags were playing havoc with environment. He viewed that the world was under the grip of severe environment challenges due to climate changes. He said that decreasing forest, shrinking water resources and soil fertility, and urbanization were the one of biggest issues confronting the human beings. He added the there is a need to promote the culture of the healthy activities including discourage the usage of plastic bags, saving water, and increasing plantation to curb environment issues. Director Soil Sciences Dr Javed Akhar said that plastic bags do not dissolve in the soil and it causes the environment pollution and decreases fertility. He stressed upon the need to create the awareness among the people so that situation can be tacked effectivity. He hoped that the campus would be made a role model in term of eliminating usage of plastic bags. Dr Shahid Majeed stressed upon the need to encouraging other kind of bags like cloth etc for a healthy environment. Rao Sajjad Ahmad said that a person in Pakistan used atlases six shoring bag in a week that had become a matter of grave concern. Dr Fahad Rasul said that there is need to take the extra measures for a clean environment
