Speakers at a seminar on Thursday called for enhanced efforts on the part of scientists, media, and educational and research institutions for disseminating scientific advancement in the different segment of society and fight social taboos to address people problems for a better tomorrow. The seminar titled challenges and opportunity for communicating science arranged by the Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, in collaboration with the Pakistan Science and Information Technology Center (PASTIC) at the New Senate Hall. Chairing the session, UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar said that researches must not be piled up in the libraries. It must reach at farmers and people doorstep. He showed his concern that technology advancements being carried out in the country were not being implemented in our lives due to lack of communication of modern knowledge. He urged the media persons to enhance the coverage of science and technology that will bring progress in the society. Talking about other issues, he added that with the passage of the time, the behaviors issues are deepening in the society such as impatience and dealing with others. Keeping in view, the social scientists and elders had to play their effective role for the betterment of society. He added the mobile phones were excessive used by the youth. They are talking for hours on the cell phones. If the conversation is based on educational learning, it is useful but vise versa, it is unhealthy activity and the trend needed to be curbed. PASTIC Director General Dr Muhammad Shiekh said that all medium of media, such as social, electronic, and print etc must be used for the disseminating of modern researches. He said that a lot of research work was being carried out in the country but it is not being transferred into goods and services properly. He added that the one innovative idea can change one lives. He said that we had to enhance the people engagement in the scientific activity and to communicating scientific advancement in the society. Renowned journalist Shamsul Islam Naz said that media houses must give proper space and beat to the sciences and technology. He added that the social behavior was deteriorating in the society as we were shunning our cultural values. He said in the modern era, the responsibility of the social scientists had increased manifold for changing the mindset of the people. He said it is the time to spreading scientific advancement in the society for making the development and to compete with the rest of the world. Director ORIC Dr Zahir Ahmad Zahir said that they had established patent wall in front of New Senate Hall in which eight patents had been displayed. He said that initiative will work flourish the culture of research. Syed Paras Ali, Dr Abdul Rasheed, Huma Qamar, and Dr Khurrum Zia also spoke on the occasion. The Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar along with others also inaugurated the Technology and Innovation Support Center at ORIC as well as Patent Wall in front of New Senate Hall.
