The fertilizer contributes 40 percent to the agricultural productivity enhancement whereas the farming community should ensure its balance and timely usage to ensure the food security of the country, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asif Tanvir.

He addressed a training workshop arranged by Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences UAF at its farms. He said that the world was introducing the hybrid fertilizers that will not only increase productivity but also fight the different pests. He said that the UAF was collaborating with industry, farming community and other stakeholders in order to address the field and food issues in a better way. Institute of Soil Sciences Director Prof Dr Muhammad Yaseen showed his concern that numerous international days were marked across the globe for the different segments and sector of the society . But for farmers, no international farmers day was dedicated to acknowledge farming community in order to contribute and alleviate hunger from the world. He said that with the efforts of Pakistan, 18 December is recognized as world farmers day. He said that ur country was lagging behind in the agriculture sector due to lack of investment in research and development. He said that country was facing 42 percent less wheat from its potential due to weeds. Fatima Group Regional Sales Manager Muhammad Arshad said that they were working on hybrid seed of wheat that has the potential to get 120 mounds, Director Farm Dr Muhammad Tahir said that modern techniques were being adopted at the university farms and they were holding famers day to disseminate the technologies. Dr Tasneem Khalid called for ensuring the modern trends in agriculture.
