The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Friday conducted a consultative meeting on the feasibility of establishment of Pakistan-Korea Nutrition Center at UAF in collaboration with Korean International Cooperation Agency to improve child and community nutrition.

The meeting was convened by Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences UAF in which Director General National Institute of Food Science and Technology UAF Dr Tahir Zahoor, all faculty members, Dr Umair Bajwa from GCUF, Dr Madiha Riaz from GCWUF, Dr Surraya from Allied Hospital Director UAF Planning and Development Irfan Abbas and other notables attended the meeting. Dr Masood Sadiq Butt that a proposal be forwarded to HEC and Planning and Department for the approval of the project. It will work for the training, research, and development of fortified food and other area. The meeting strongly agreed state-of-the-art Pakistan Koran Nutrition Center that will serve as nucleus for neutrino education, research, training and outreach. Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that training of lady health workers, and supervisors to disseminate the knowledge of malnutrition. He said that despite having plenty of food, we were facing malnutrition crisis. He said that lack of awareness about nutritive food is the main reason of malnutrition. He said that 50 percent of population was facing malnutrition. He said education about nutritive and balanced food at school level will help overcome the issue. He said that they have trained 200 school teachers about the nutrition. Dr Tahir Zahoor said that malnutrition issue was worsening due to changing life style so that there is a need to create about balanced usage of food. He said that effective measures are needed to educate the people about the healthy way of life. Dr Umair Bajwa said that there is a lack of availability of data in the area of malnutrition for which we have to work.
