Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Center (PASTIC) has connected as many as 52 libraries of different universities and colleges to provide free-of-cost access to data of available books in all libraries for the students. Whereas, the students will be given smart libraries cards to get issued the books from other universities’ libraries also .

It was stated by experts at one-day seminar on Consortium/ networking of Science and Technology and Research and Development Libraries arranged at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad at Main Library on Friday. The event was arranged by the University of Agriculture Faisalabad Main Library and PASTIC. Chairing the session, Dean Faculty of Food Science Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that under the Pastic cloud Koha Library Software, libraries are being connected that will open up new era of education and help the students to crunch their thirst of knowledge with multiple books across the country. He said that it is a matter of concern that book reading habit was declining in the youth with telecommunication advancement. He said that we have to promote the book reading culture in the youth in order to compete with the new trends and to rest of the world. Resource Person Syed Habib Jafri from Pastic said that the project will be stretched to all the universities of the country. Whereas, 30 more universities will be added to libraries pool within a couple of months. He said that pastic was making all-out efforts to bring innovation and modern facility in education system in the country. UAF Librarian Umar Farooq said that such initiatives are the need of the hour that will bring revolutions in the education system. He said that UAF library was having a wide range of the books that are pooled in Koha software. He said that we have to promote book reading habits for a better tomorrow. Dr Tariq Najmi from COMSATS shared their experience about the PASTIC initiatives to provide free access to bibliographic data of books.
