The University of Agriculture Faisalabad scientists will design a bio-gasification plant in which low-priced electricity will be produced by using solid waste, and biomass in order to promote alternative ways of energy.

This was stated by University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf during his visit to Postgraduate Agricultural Research Station (PARS) UAF. He was flanked by Principal Community College Dr Haq Nawaz Bhatti, Director Punjab Bio Energy Institute Dr Ahsan, Deputy Registrar PRP Syed Qamar Bukahri and other notables. He also directed experts to create of model by using sewerage slug to produce biogas for 50 houses . He said that the model is being used in many developed nations. He said that the alternative sources of energy like wind, bio energy and bio fuel need to be applied to meet the energy demand in the country. He said that alternative sources such as solar, bio, wind energy can help cope with situation and to address the issue. He said three newly constructed blocks at the main campus including Science Block, Student Teachers Centre and ICT Center will be converted on solar energy in the span of two months that will not only decrease power bills but also help promote renewable energy. He directed the staff to promote the renewable energy and to develop the technologies for farmer and industry at the affordable prices. He directed the university experts to come up with innovative ideas to address the issues of farming community and society, He added that agriculture was the backbone of economy that was contributing 20 percent to the Gross Domestic Product, and employing 45 percent of labour force. He said that the university had paced up efforts to produce the tangible research work that will bring betterment in the lives of the farming community and people. He added that agriculture was under the grip of the different challenges that need immediate attention of the academia, researchers, extension workers and others.
