Inflicted seed and lack of mechanization especially for small farmers were hampering the process of getting fruits from the potential of agriculture sector, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf.

He addressed the Zaraee Baithak arranged by Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics UAF at Auditorium, Center for Advanced Studies, UAF. He said that the smart agriculture machinery was vital to be developed at the national level for small farmers. He said that university had taken up the issue of the development of climate resilient seeds for the food security and increasing per acre production. He said amid the situation of ever-increasing population, decreasing fertility and agricultural land, we need to adopt modern trends in agriculture sector to tackle situation effectively. Progressive farmer Basharat Jaspal said that adoption of modern agri methods at par with modern world, climate resilient varieties, timely sowing of crops are prerequisite to increase agricultural yield and ensure food security. Dean Faculty of Animal Husbandry UAF Dr Sajjad Ahmad Khan said that better fodder techniques needed to be implemented for the better milk from the animals. He said that UAF was making all-out efforts to address the problems of farming community and to flourish the agricultural sector. Former Dean Agriculture UAF Iftitkhar Ahmad said that we must have to keep the nutritive value of the fodder in view. He said that amid the increasing population, the agriculture land was diminishing which is being used for the residential colonies and other purposes. It is a challenge. Department Chairman Dr Tanvir Malik said that milk is the essential part of our diet. He said that with the better fodder usage, we can increase the per animal milk production. He said that with high temperature, the production of fodder decreases and the issue needed to be addressed. Dr Ameer BB said that the University was coming up with the new climate resilient variety of the fodder. She said that Baithak will provide an opportunity to all stakeholders including farming community, scientists, policy makers and others to addresses the issues of the agriculture.
