Senate Meeting

FAISALABAD September 21: Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yassir Humayun Sarfraz has said it is inevitable to produce skilled manpower and solution-based researches to achieve sustainable development based on knowledge economy and to alleviate property . He stated this while presiding over the University of Agriculture Faisalabad’s 48 Senate Meeting. He stressed upon the need to hone the professional and communication skills in the student so that the students can compete with the changing world in a better way. The effective communication will help them to present themselves effectively in order to excel economical struggle. He said that that a strategy should be developed to develop entrepreneurs skills in the students so that they can become job provider rather than job seekers. He said that promotion of diversification in the educational field is the need of the hour so that students can progress in life with diversified experiences. He said that the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad being the first agricultural university in the subcontinent had played a pivotal role in the uplift of agriculture sector and ensuring food security, which will have to make efforts to attract more international students. He said that due to being an agricultural country, the development of the country is dependent on agriculture, in which we have to promote the latest agriculture practices that will increase the income of the farmers and production. UAF Vice Chancellor Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan said that all possible efforts were being made for quality education and tangible research in UAF. He said that the university was running compatible research projects worth Rs 2300 million which will bring improvement in the field of agriculture. He said that Waris Shah Chair is set up in the newly established Faculty of Arts and Humanities in the University of Agriculture that will enrich new generation with the Punjabi culture. He said that the UAF in collaboration with Washington State University is working on 30 new wheat varieties keeping in view climate change. He said that the UAF is the only university in Pakistan which is among the top 100 universities in the subject category in the international QS ranking. He said that for stable agricultural development, instead of being limited to only five crops, a plan should be prepared to grow more crops. The meeting also approved the establishment of Arts and Humanities Faculty. The meeting also okayed the budget of 11,727 million for 2022-23. Treasurer Umar Saeed Qadri presented the budget.
