The University of Agriculture Faisalabad on Monday established one-day nutrition camp to educate public about prevention measures to curb different diseases including dietetics, hepatitis, cancer, heart diseases, and others.

The camp was inaugurated by Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Home Sciences, UAF Dr Masood Sadiq Butt who was flanked by Dr Ayesha Sameen and others. Talking to participants, he said that every tenth citizen of Pakistan was victim of hepatitis and one of the major reasons was used syringe. He said that victim have to make the vegetables and fruits as their diet. He also said that 17 million people in the county fall victim to the disease. Talking about the cancer, he said that one of the six deaths is caused by cancer. He said that overweight, less usage of vegetable and fruits, smoking, population etc. He said: despite having plenty of food, we were facing malnutrition crisis.” He urged the people to use balanced diet and adopt physical activities in their daily lives. He said that 50 percent of population was facing malnutrition. He said education about nutritive and balanced food at school level will help overcome the issue. He said: high blood pressure is the most important modifiable risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. He said: “Hypertension affects approximately 40 per cent of adults globally while the ratio in the country is 50 per cent. Healthy lifestyle will help decrease the prevalence of this disease in the country population is also important. The University of Agriculture Faisalabad is organizing three-day book fair at its Main Library from March 12 (today) to March 14 to promote book reading habits in the society. The fair will be inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal Randhawa at 10 am in which publishers across the country are setting up their stalls and the books will be sold on subsidized rate. It is annual feature of the university to arrange the fair in which hundreds of the books lovers visit. The fair will remain open for books lovers from 9 am to 7 pm. Different ranges of books including art, humanity, agriculture, business, literature, history, Islamic books, basic and applied sciences etc will be put on display for sale.
