The University of Agriculture took out a walk to mark the climate strike week begin from September 20.

The rally was led by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf who was flanked by Hashoo Foundation Deputy Managing Director Arif Khan, Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) Director Muhammad Ashfaq Chatha and a large number of faculty and Students. The rally begin from CAS and concluded at Faculty of Veterinary Sciences. Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that increasing temperatures, floods, and irregular rain patterns were vital signs that we have fallen prey to climate change. He said that heavy loss we bear almost every year owing to changing climate. He added that the heavy chunking of smoke from factories and vehicle and other factors have disturbed the climate. He lauded the steps of the government of launching billions tree program in a bid to mitigate climate change impact. The program includes plantation, ban on polythene bags, electric vehicles policy and clean drinking water to battle ecological crisis. He said that we need to be strict about carbon emissions, and pay attention to the importance of renewable energy. Dr Ashfaq Chatha said it was the need of hour to sensitize the people about the environmental issues. He said that we have to create public momentum to mitigate greenhouse emissions, increase tree cover, and reduce pollution. He said that the government initiative of Green and Clean Pakistan is a hallmark step that will bring tangible results. Arif Khan said that the climate strike will continue for the week and during the week, commitments were being made across the globe to address climate change issue. Dr Fahad Rasul also spoke on the occasion.
