The Department of Zoology, Wildlife and Fisheries University of Agriculture Faisalabad has arranged a seminar on Control of some potential rodent pests using eco-sustainable technologies for crops and indoor environments in the selected agro ecological zones.

The seminar was chaired by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf while Dean Faculty of Sciences Dr Ashghar Bajwa, Department Chairman Dr Hammad Ahmad Khan, NARC Scientific Officer Irfan Ahmad and Ajmal Bajwa from Urban Pest Management also spoke on the occasion. Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that rodent cause loss to crops, stored grains, and other things. They damage sugarcane, rice, groundnuts, wheat and others. He said that food for 280 million people can be saved by controlling rodent across the globe. He said there are many kinds of rodents but eight species of rodents are dangerous for agriculture in Central Punjab. Dr Muhammad Asghar Bajwa said that all out efforts were being carried out in the university to promote the research culture. He said many research projects are underway in his faculty for addressing the real issues of the public and farming community. He said that university was used to hold such seminar for public awareness. Dr Hammad said that with the adaptation of trap barrier system which is based upon technique sans chemicals, we can overcome such damages. It will not only save the crop but also help the farming community to raise their income.
