As many as 70 percent of students are facing depression due to changing lifestyle, food habits and educational workload.

It was stated by experts at a seminar on mental health at University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Addressing on the occasion, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Muhammad Aslam, Dean Social Sciences Dr Mahmood A Randhawa, Dr Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar, Chairperson Sociology Dr Saira Akhtar and others also spoke on the occasion. Dr Muhammad Aslam said that girls are more depressed in the modern era than the male. He said that the making little changes in your life can really add up to a big feeling of relief. He stressed upon the need to learn to recognize when you are feeling stressed and simple ways you can relax. He said that the World Mental Health Day is supported by the United Nations, and is annually held on October 10 to raise public awareness about the issue across the world. Mental disorders affect almost 12 percent of the world’s population. Dr Mahmood A. Randhawa said that a positive attitude towards life will raise oneself out of the depression. He said that the students must learn to practice time management. He stressed upon the need to share your talents to better the lives of others as well as your sense of well-being. Dr Imtiaz Ahmad Dogar called for sleeping hygienic and to learn the relaxation exercised. He said that reading of Quran and Sunnah in routine life will help oneself to lead a balanced life. Iqra Shakoor and Dr Muhammad Aslam also spoke on the occasion. Faculty of Food Nutrition and Home Sciences (FNH) University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) took at rally to observe the world food day. The rally commenced from Admin block and ended at the National Institute of Food Science and Technology (NIFSAT). FNH Faculty Dean Dr Masood Sadiq Butt led the rally while NIFSAT DG Huzhat Huma and In charge Home Sciences Dr Ayesha Riaz along with tens of students and faculty members participated in the rally. . Dr Masood Sadiq Butt said that the food insecurity was hitting 58 percent of population in Pakistan. He added that malnutrition was the area of grave concern. Although we are abundant in the food, but 50 percent of our population was malnourished. He said that there is a need to create the awareness about balanced usage of food. He also said that the food diversity was essential for mitigating the issue of malnutrition. Dr Nuzhat Huma said that the UAF has kicked off degree programme in Human Nutrition and Dietetics to produce the skilled manpower that is replicated in 15 universities. She said that day is observed in 150 countries and it is aimed to ensure the food security to end the hunger from the world. Dr Ayesha Riaz said that joint efforts are desired to fight the challenges of the hunger from the society.
